Artist Statement:
Camille Feinberg was born into an artistic family in Los Angeles and received her artistic training at Chouinard, California Institute of the Arts, CA and Rutgers University, NJ. In 1971 she moved to New York, where she painted and was active as a performer in experimental theater and film. Among her current influences on her photographic & video works are contemporary trends, and the transformation of the individual and nature by society and technology. Recording live performance is natural to her interests. The 'History of Paradise" series of photographs is evidence specifically of Anime in So. California: the sub-culture of Anime dolls imagined & created by their owners that represent "new families and social groups" who come together in friendship and mutual interest, interacting with the larger society and in cyberspace. The early paintings reflect an attempt to regain the natural world, to paint "portals of paradise" and study nature. The later paintings show a landscape more fluid, watery, and in flux, and were influenced by the nature of the fluidity of artistic mediums, and by the influence of the natural events on the landscape. The combination of logical understanding and emotional response that is represented by these interests are very much at the center of her work.
